2025 Term 3 - Week 10

From the Principal's Desk

Tim Thompson
Acting Principal
Hello Mudgeeraba Creek Community,
The past few weeks at the Creek have been truly special. Our school has been alive with moments of learning, joy, and connection, and it has been wonderful to see our community come together in so many ways. Each event has provided rich opportunities for our students to grow, and I am so proud of the way they continue to live out our values of Friendship, Achievement, and Respect.
As we look ahead to the final term of 2025, I am excited for the experiences still to come – times that will celebrate the talents of our young learners and strengthen the bonds across our community.
As we head into the holidays, I encourage you to take time to rest, recharge, and cherish moments with your loved ones. Stay safe, stay well, and I look forward to seeing you all in Term 4.
Monty’s Colour Fun Run Success
Our Colour Fun Run was an incredible success – a day bursting with laughter, energy, and, of course, plenty of colour! One of the highlights was watching our staff step outside their comfort zones, especially those who put their hands up to be slimed. The joy this brought to our students was unforgettable and created such a special atmosphere. To our staff, thank you for your enthusiasm and spirit – your willingness to join in the fun made the day truly memorable.
A heartfelt thank you also goes to our wonderful parent community for coming along to share in the excitement. Your presence added so much warmth and energy to the event.
Most importantly, we extend our deepest gratitude to our P&C volunteers. Their dedication, organisation, and tireless behind-the-scenes efforts ensured the day ran smoothly and gave our students such a vibrant and positive experience. Events like this are only possible because of the generosity and support of our school community.
Thank you to everyone who played a part in making the Colour Run such a joyful and successful day. As a school community we raised $50 110.10. It was a beautiful reminder of what we can achieve when we come together as a community. And yes – Mrs Ayton’s colourful smile really did say it all!

Active School Travel Event
Our recent Active School Travel Event was an outstanding success and a wonderful celebration of community spirit. It was fantastic to see so many students from Prep to Year 6 eagerly taking part, embracing the challenge, and showing such enthusiasm for building healthy and sustainable habits. Their smiles, energy, and determination truly made the day special.
A huge thank you goes to our dedicated staff, whose encouragement and support helped create such a positive atmosphere, and to our parent community, whose involvement and cheer added so much to the event. Together, we showed our students the power of making small, healthy choices that can have a big impact on their wellbeing and our environment.
Events like this remind us of the strength of our school community and the joy that comes from working together towards a shared goal. We are so proud of our students and grateful to everyone who contributed to making the day such a success.
Year 6 Probability Carnival

A special thank you goes to our wonderful Year 6 team for hosting such a fantastic Probability Carnival. The event was a true celebration of learning, filled with creativity, energy, and hands-on experiences that made mathematics come alive for our students.
It was also heartening to see such strong attendance from our parent community. Your support added to the excitement of the day and is a real credit to the effort, organisation, and innovation of the staff involved.
Events like this not only enrich student learning but also highlight the engaging and inspiring teaching that happens every day at Mudgeeraba Creek.
Kind regards

DON'T FORGET TO VOTE!
POLL CLOSES SUNDAY 12 October
Exploring Alignment of School Bell Times
At our most recent P&C meeting, we began discussing a proposal to align our school bell times so that all year levels would start the school day at 9:00 am and finish at 3:00 pm.
Currently, our staggered bell times have remained in place since COVID and to a degree help manage transitions at the beginning and end of the school day; however, aligning the start and finish times for all students may provide opportunities to streamline routines, enhance consistency for families with siblings in multiple year levels, increase student safety, be more financially viable for school staffing and create a smoother flow to the school day.
We value the perspectives of our families and staff and would love to hear your thoughts on this proposal. Your feedback will play an important role in shaping any future decisions.
Please share your views by completing the poll below or emailing us at admin@mudgeerabacreekss.eq.edu.au

Class Preferences for 2026
As we near the end of the year there are the many tasks to work through in preparing for the 2026 school year, one of those is 2026 class creation.
This year please send an email to classpreference@mudgeerabacreekss.eq.edu.au regarding friendship requests. Please keep this limited to 2 friends, and of course if there are concerns about friendship groups, include this information as well. I do need to remind you all that these are simply requests and not a guarantee. We have many factors to take into consideration when compiling class lists. You are not able to request specific teachers as this is not part of the process.
Requests are to be received no later than 2 October.
Student leaving form
Each year we know that some of our families say goodbye to Mudgeeraba Creek, so if you know that you are not returning in 2026, please complete the Student Leaving Form below and email to our Attendance Officer attendance@mudgeerabacreekss.eq.edu so we are able to update your records.
We collate this information and use it in the planning of classes for 2026. Of course, this does not include our current Year 6 students, we know they are excitedly heading off to high school and will be invited to complete a brief survey regarding their high school of choice.
Laver Scholarship
The Laver Family Scholarship will be offered again by the Laver Family this year for students who will graduate in 2025 to High School next year. The scholarship will be for a total amount of $3500.00 and it will be awarded in two instalments, the first $1,750 will initially be payable in 2025 at graduation and the second $1,750 in late 2026.
The scholarship became possible as a result of the generosity of the Laver Family and is managed by a Board of Trustees. The board will determine when a scholarship is to be awarded and it will also appoint a selection panel to formalise the allocation of the award. Please note that this is a process and offering that is arranged by a trust that exists and operates external to our school.
So that you have some information regarding the Laver Family and their history in the Mudgeeraba area I have outlined below a brief resume of the Laver Family and their involvement in Mudgeeraba.
The successful student will receive one instalment at the end of the year in which the scholarship is offered. This will be for an amount of $1,750.00. The balance $1,750.00 will be awarded at the end of Year 7 on the recommendation of the Principal of the secondary school that the child is attending.
Eligible candidates
In order to be eligible children must be enrolled in Year 7 and have been a student here for at least the past three years consecutively.
Making application
The applicant must complete the application form and all selection criteria as determined by the Board of Trustees. I will provide advice to children who are applying once I’m aware who will be applicants for the scholarship. Most criteria will be completed by the student but the child’s teacher will be required to provide some information on two selection criteria while the selection panel will complete selection criterion six at the interview, should the student be short-listed for interview. The application should be supported by appropriate documentation. Photocopies of originals will be sufficient.
Only a short list will be interviewed by the Panel in November.
Application forms
Application forms are available below or from our school office and are required to be returned to the office once completed.
Closing date
Applications will close at 4.00pm on 8 October 2025. Children and parents need to be aware that late applications cannot be accepted.
While this exciting opportunity is provided by the Laver Family, I will be providing two sessions to provide some guidance to interested students and offer suggestions for them to consider when they are completing their applications. Students will be made aware of the sessions and choose to attend or not.
Good luck to all candidates in their bid to take advantage of this fantastic opportunity.

Term 3 in Years 4-6
It has been another amazing term for students in Years 4-6. Our senior students have been involved in wonderful learning experiences over the past few weeks.
Year 5 Art Day
In Week 9, our Year 5 teachers facilitated art workshops for the afternoon, where students experimented with different styles and materials used in visual arts. Thank you to the Year 5 team for making this a fun and engaging session.
E-Sports Tournament
The heat has truly turned up in the e-sports arena! Ms. Neville has worked with various senior school gamers who have participated in both inter-school and school-based competitions. Thank you to Ms. Neville and our e-sports students for their hard work and dedication.

Gala Day
Our Year 5 and 6 students attended Gala Day on Tuesday, 16 September, where students from all over our cluster participated in sports competitions throughout the day. Our students represented our school in soccer, touch football, netball, and frisbee. They displayed amazing resilience and sportsmanship. Thank you to all who took part and helped make Gala Day Term 3 a success!
Leadership Passports
Last week, students in Year 5 received information on how to express interest in student leadership positions for next year. Students who are interested are encouraged to collect a Leadership Passport booklet from the front office. These will need to be completed as part of their applications. Parents have been emailed further details. I look forward to reading the applications next term.

Deputy Principal
It has been another fabulous term for our Junior students! The athletics carnival, colour fun run and dance performance were the highlight for many students as they had the opportunity to have their family come and join them at school. We are so grateful to all the parents, grandparents and special adults to taking time out of their busy work schedules to join us.
Our Prep teachers have commented on how calm and settled their start to the day is now that our Prep students are sitting quietly outside their classrooms in the morning before school. Thank you to all the parents who are helping their child develop greater independence and confidence by doing their morning jobs themselves and then sitting with their peers. There is no requirement for parents to wait with their student until 8:30am unless they wish to. Teachers and teacher aides will be working on developing further independence for students in their afternoon pick up routines in preparation for the transition to Year 1 where students are dismissed from their classroom and move to their arranged pick up meeting place independently. You can assist with this by ensuring that you tell your child where you will be meeting them in the afternoon and then waiting at that place for your child to meet you in the afternoon.

This week our Prep students enjoyed making pizzas after learning about digraphs. They have made fantastic gains with their phonic knowledge and well on the way to becoming independent readers and writers. If you would like to keep your child engaged in reading over the holidays the Gold Coast City Council has a fantastic range of physical and digital texts available to borrow.
Our Year One students have completed the Year One Phonics check this term. Our teachers have commented on how pleased they are with students progress in reading after implementing daily fluency routines into their literacy blocks. Ask your child to read to you at home if they have not read to you for a little while as you may be pleasantly surprised by the improvements in their fluency when reading aloud.

This term in Science, Year 2 has dived into the fascinating world of sound! The children have loved exploring how sound travels through different materials, how our ears hear sound, and how pitch and volume can change. Students have investigated how vibrations create sound and even experimented with everyday objects to see this in action.

Our learning journey culminated in a fun and creative project where the children designed and made their own musical instruments using recycled materials. It’s been a hands-on, noisy (in the best way) and an exciting term of learning.

Kind regards

Member for Mudgeeraba has us covered!
We had a brolly good time earlier this week when the Member for Mudgeeraba, the Hon. Ms. Bates MP dropped by to officially launch her generous gift of umbrellas to Mudgee Creek! ☔️🌂
Whether it’s dodging raindrops on the way to assembly or seeking shade when the Aussie sun is doing its best impression of a toaster, Ms. Bates has us covered—literally.
It’s true what they say: we get by with a little help from our friends (and their fabulous umbrella donations). Thank you so much, Ms. Bates—you’ve made rainy days a whole lot brighter!

School Watch: Look - Listen - Report
The School Watch program encourages everyone to look out for and report any after-hours crime in our schools.
LOOK - LISTEN - REPORT
This is especially important during the school holiday periods as empty schools can become targets for unlawful entry, arson, stealing, graffiti and property damage. This comes at a cost to the whole community and not just the financial cost of repairs.
The School Watch program is a partnership between the Department of Education and Protective Services Group, Queensland Police Service, providing a way for members of the community to report anything they see that is suspicious, even if it seems minor.
On average, over 700 calls are made to School Watch every year, helping to keep our schools safe.
Look, Listen, Report. Call School Watch on 13 17 88
If you see a crime in progress, call Triple Zero (000)
