2024 Term 3 Vol. 3
Acknowledgment of Country
From the Principal's Desk
Dear Parents and Community Members,
It was wonderful to see our school community come together to celebrate our love of reading throughout Book Week. I was extremely impressed by the imagination and effort that went into the marvellous book character dress-up creations. The enthusiasm displayed by our students, families, and staff was truly heart-warming.
A special mention goes to the amazing classroom door displays, which transformed our school into a vibrant showcase of creativity and storytelling. These displays, combined with the fantastic costumes, reflect the deep passion we all share for books and reading.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to making Book Week such a memorable experience!
As we near the end of the year there are the many tasks to work through in preparing for the 2025 school year, one of those is 2025 class creation.
This year please send an email to classpreference@mudgeerabacreekss.eq.edu.au regarding friendship requests. Please keep this limited to 2 friends, and of course if there are concerns about friendship groups, include this information as well. I do need to remind you all that these are simply requests and not a guarantee. We have many factors to take into consideration when compiling class lists. You are not able to request specific teachers as this is not part of the process. Requests are to be received no later than 2 October.
Each year we know that some of our families say goodbye to Mudgeeraba Creek, so if you know that you are not returning in 2025, can you please complete the Student Leaving Form below and contact the office (admin@mudgeerabacreekss.eq.edu.au) to let our wonderful ladies know. We collate this information and use it in the planning of classes for 2025. Of course, this does not include our current Year 6 students, we know they are excitedly heading off to high school and will be invited to complete a brief survey regarding their high school of choice.
We are delighted to announce that The Laver Family Scholarship will be offered again by the Laver Family this year for students who will graduate in 2024 to High School next year. The scholarship will be for a total amount of $3500.00 and it will be awarded in two instalments, the first $1,750 will initially be payable in 2024 at graduation and the second $1,750 in late 2025.
The scholarship became possible as a result of the generosity of the Laver Family and is managed by a Board of Trustees. The board will determine when a scholarship is to be awarded, and it will also appoint a selection panel to formalise the allocation of the award. Please note that this is a process and offering that is arranged by a trust that exists and operates external to our school.
So that you have some information regarding the Laver Family and their history in the Mudgeeraba area I have outlined below a brief resume of the Laver Family and their involvement in Mudgeeraba.
The successful student will receive one instalment at the end of the year in which the scholarship is offered. This will be for an amount of $1,750.00. The balance $1,750.00 will be awarded at the end of Year 7 on the recommendation of the Principal of the secondary school that the child is attending.
Eligible candidates
In order to be eligible, children must be enrolled in Year 7 and have been a student here for at least the past three years consecutively.
Making application
The applicant must complete the application form and all selection criteria as determined by the Board of Trustees. I will provide advice to children who are applying once I’m aware who will be applicants for the scholarship. Most criteria will be completed by the student but the child’s teacher will be required to provide some information on two selection criteria while the selection panel will complete selection criterion six at the interview, should the student be shortlisted for interview. The application should be supported by appropriate documentation. Photocopies of originals will be sufficient.
Only a shortlist will be interviewed by the Panel in November.
Application forms
Application forms will be available from our school reception, as well as being attached, and are required to be returned to the same location once completed.
Closing date
Applications will close at 4.00pm on 9 October 2024. Children and parents need to be aware that late applications cannot be accepted.
While this exciting opportunity is provided by the Laver Family, I will be providing two sessions to provide some guidance to interested students and offer suggestions for them to consider when they are completing their applications. Students will be made aware of the sessions and choose to attend or not.
Good luck to all candidates in their bid to take advantage of this fantastic opportunity.
I look forward to seeing you at our next P & C Meeting on Thursday 05/09/2024.
Warm regards
Ben Morris
Principal
Quote of the Week
Being a parent can be tough, but just remember that in your child’s eyes,
nobody does it better than you.
Senior School
This week our Year 6 students participated in their final book week event. The teachers and students did not disappoint with their outstanding costumes and dancing skills during the parade.
Our senior students also had the opportunity to meet and learn with students from Japan. This was such a great experience for both the Japanese and Mudgee Creek students.
Warm regards
Tim Thompson
Deputy Principal - Senior School
Junior School
What a busy week with Book Fair and Book Week celebrations upon us. By all accounts the students had a wonderful time and we were so pleased to see many students and families participating in this wonderful event.
In classroom news, our Prep students have been exploring measurement concepts this term and have enjoyed using concrete materials to measure length, weight and capacity. We hope that students have been helping you measure at home and putting the skills taught at school into action.
Warm regards
Lesley Dekker
Deputy Principal - Junior School
IDEAS
Inclusion, Equity, and Access Support: Our Commitment to Every Student
At Mudgeeraba Creek State School, our mission is to create an environment where every student feels valued, respected, and supported. By fostering an inclusive school culture, we ensure that all students, regardless of their background or abilities, have the opportunity to thrive.
Understanding Inclusion
Inclusion is about creating a learning environment where every child is welcomed and supported to reach their full potential. We strive to ensure that our classrooms are places where differences are celebrated and where every student feels they belong.
Equity in Education
Equity is about providing each student with the resources and support they need to succeed. At our school, we recognise that every student is unique, with different strengths, challenges, and needs. We are committed to ensuring that all students have equitable access to the educational opportunities that will help them achieve their goals and the support they need to fully participate in school life.
Access for All
Access is about breaking down barriers to learning and participation. We are committed to identifying and removing any obstacles that might prevent a student from fully engaging in their education. This includes making sure our school is accessible for all, as well as providing the necessary tools and resources for students with diverse needs.
IDEAS Team
Our school’s IDEAS Team (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access Support) plays a crucial role in this effort. This team works tirelessly to develop strategies and implement programs that support students with diverse needs.
A Community Effort
Inclusion, equity, and access are not just the responsibility of the school - they are a community effort. We encourage parents and guardians to partner with us in supporting these values by talking to your children about differences and people with diverse needs and being supportive of the principles of inclusion at school and in the larger world.
Together, we can create a school environment where every student has the opportunity to succeed.
Warm regards
Pamela Lidstone
Head of Student Services

Thank You for Keeping Us Safe!
Celebrating Queensland's School Crossing Supervisors for 40 years of service
This year, Queensland’s School Crossing Supervisor Scheme celebrates 40 years of keeping kids safe as they travel to and from school.
We'd like to say a big thank you to our wonderful School Crossing Supervisors, Debra Housley and Laurice Douglas, for everything you do for our students and school community! You do a great job keeping our students and other pedestrians safe as they cross the road in peak drop-off and pick-up times.
Why not say a big thank you the next time you see them on duty? You can also show your appreciation for School Crossing Supervisors by slowing down, following directions and being courteous while travelling in our school zone.
Did you know?
- The School Crossing Supervisor Scheme is operated by the Department of Transport and Main Roads.
- There are more than 2000 school crossing supervisors who operate over 1300 crossings at more than 700 Queensland schools.
- There has not been a single fatality on a supervised crossing since the scheme started in 1984.
